As a freshman, Gaby Lopez set a goal: To become the first athlete at her high school to earn 1,000 career points on the basketball court. After netting 542 that first season, the senior met (and exceeded) her goal in November during Tucson’s Boyd Baker Tournament.
“She’s the best I’ve seen come through Bisbee,” said Coach Courtney Borquez of Lopez whose momentous milestone came in just 2.5 seasons of play due to COVID.
A banner to honor Lopez and her career total points (which, at last tally, stood at a whopping 1,385) will eventually hang in the Brisbee High gymnasium.
