Am I Brave Enough to be a Better Angel?

Am I Brave Enough to be a Better Angel?

Other than college intramural boxing class or my best friend’s single slug on the second grade playground – I’ve never been in a fistfight. I guess I’m a lover, not a fighter.

Consequently, I’ve been shocked at my readiness to go to war against my enemies – and even more so to discern my enemies are … my fellow Americans.

Perhaps it’s because I love my country so or I feel so misunderstood and polarized. So when an acquaintance called to invite me to engage with Braver Angels, I thought it might be time to listen. Is love the answer after all?

Unleash Your Inner Mad Scientist

Through the pandemic, I have been making more of an effort to plan out meals and reduce shopping trips. That doesn’t mean bland and boring boxed meals though. From Indian curries, to Mediterranean stuffed grape leaves, to vegan peanut butter cookies, we keep things interesting.

Our latest challenge? Reverse spherification. With a click of a button, Amazon delivered an inexpensive kit and we unleashed our inner mad scientists.

I will warn you, there is a lot of prep work that goes into planning and making the spheres. But, with the extra time comes more laughs and memories with my daughter.

Arizona Association of REALTORS® Supports the Fight Against Homelessness

arizona realtors housing fund

There are approximately 10,000 homeless Arizonans who are living in either emergency shelters, transitional shelters or living unsheltered, in need of permanent housing. Existing Permanent Supportive Housing is always full with a waitlist as long as six months.

The Arizona Housing Fund provides grants to other non-profits statewide to support much-needed Permanent Supportive Housing. The goal of Arizona REALTORS® is giving buyers and sellers the opportunity to donate $25 (or more) to the Arizona Housing Fund at closing. The donation form takes 20 seconds to complete, and after completion the funds go directly from the title company to the Fund.

Ford confirms it will bring an all-electric F-150 to market

In April, Ford announced a $500 million investment in Rivian. As part of that, Ford will develop an all-new, next-generation battery electric vehicle for Ford’s growing electric vehicle portfolio using Rivian’s skateboard platform.

Ford’s investment in electric vehicles proves its commitment to giving customers a range of these vehicles, including an all-new Mustang-inspired fully electric performance utility coming in late 2020. It is the first of seven vehicles coming by 2022.

This is in addition to the all-new F-150 Hybrid that goes on sale next year. Both models will have the toughness, capability and smartness that F-150 customers have come to expect.

Linda Zhang, F-150 All-Electric’s Chief Engineer, tested the capability of the prototype by towing over 1 million pounds the length of three football fields.

From recycling bin to underbody skin: Ford recycles 1.2 billion plastic bottles every year for underbody vehicle parts

Ford recycles plastic

Ford was the first automaker to use recycled plastics for wheel liners on the European Escort. Over the last 12 years, aerodynamics has driven the need for underbody shields with the use of plastics in vehicle parts.

When you recycle, do you ever wonder where all that plastic ends up?

Ford Motor Company is playing a major role in promoting environmentally friendly auto parts. By using recycled plastic bottles for underbody shields on all cars and SUVs, and wheel liners on F-series trucks, Ford uses about 1.2 billion recycled plastic bottles per year – about 250 bottles per vehicle on average.

Due to its light weight, recycled plastic is ideal for the manufacture of underbody shields, engine under shield and front and rear wheel arch liners that can help improve vehicle aerodynamics, which effects fuel efficiency.

Having this one trait will make you influential

Humor

We’ve got the secret to success. No joke.

Almost everyone likes a person with a good sense of humor. Studies even show humorous people are more successful and are more likely to be in positions of influence.

Humor is associated with high emotional intelligence and cognitive ability. People who have a positive humor style are also often good communicators and successful conflict resolvers. Funny people appear confident and competent, therefore increasing their status among peers.

But before you order that joke book on Amazon to memorize over the weekend, watch our video for tips on how you can realistically use humor to increase your status and gain influence.

Across the Aisle VIII: New hope for America

Across the aisle

In the final episode of our video series, Democrat and Republican wax optimistic.

“In all my 20 years of Congress, I never served with anybody who didn’t have the interests of the country at heart. I just hope it doesn’t take another crisis like September 11 for things to have to come together,” Saxby Chambliss said. “In spite of all our problems, our partisanship, we’re still the best form of government of any country.”

“If you look back at the history, people dust themselves up and they look for remedies. I do not lose hope. I’m optimistic,” Wyche Fowler said.

Across the Aisle VII: Social media & C-Span

Social media

“Social media has given rise to the ability of individuals to say anything they want to say irrespective of what the facts are. People make things up. I finally just told my staff, ‘Don’t ever show me another blog. I don’t care if they say something good or bad about me,’” Republican Saxby Chambliss said.

“C-Span gives America the opportunity to hear from members of Congress across the country, and that’s good … but it gives the opportunity for partisan politicians to be partisan to the whole country. It certainly contributes to the House being as partisan as it is.”
