On Dec. 15, members of the community and city officials gathered for the grand opening of The Lyceum, a joint project from the Community Alliance of Seventh Avenue, City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department and Clear Channel Outdoor.
The park, landscaped with plants and low-water trees, features a stage, seating, lighting and bike racks. It’s 11,000 square feet and was first conceived by Perry Allen, a Phoenix-based artist who uses public space as an art medium.
Its name comes from the lyceum movement of the mid-19th century, which created public spaces for speeches and entertainment.
