‘N.E.E.T.’ millennials are hiding from the workforce

Where will we get our next wave of employees? “Disengaged youth” are going to be a stumbling block for employers in all industries nationwide. They are between 16 and 24 and neither employed nor in education or training. They’re “N.E.E.T.”

Out of the 38.9 million Americans who fall into that range, about 6.7 million are N.E.E.T. In Arizona, that number is almost 150,000.

To make that thought less daunting, remember what Herb Kelleher of Southwest Airlines said: “You don’t hire for skills, you hire for attitude. You can always teach skills.”
