Arizona beer drinkers have new home-grown option

Arizona Light Lager

There’s a new market segment for craft beer in Arizona – light beer.

Huss Brewing Co. started by tinkering with a classic American light lager recipe and then testing the light, low-carb beer at Arizona locations of Buffalo Wild Wings. Restaurant guests who tried “XP” and responded to a point-of-sale QR code survey drew taste comparisons to national brands.

Eighty-four percent of respondents said the term “locally brewed” was somewhat or very important to them. This reaffirmed the decision to create a light beer made in Arizona. That’s how we got to the new beer: Arizona Light.

The Phoenician launches Champagne Saturdays

Champagne Saturdays

On the first and third Saturday of each month, The Phoenician is transforming its Tea Room into an after-dark experience with Champagne Saturdays.

During each event, held after sunset at 7 p.m. and also featuring live music, locals and guests alike can choose from three tiers of champagne: Perrier-Jouet Grand Brut, Ruinart Blanc de Blancs or Dom Perignon. The Champagne of the guest’s choosing is then paired with four courses: an artisan cheese board, cold canapés, warm canapés and a sumptuous dessert tray.

Prices range from $89 to $199 per person, based on Champagne selection.

Ocean 44 opens in Scottsdale

seafood restaurant

After a year of anticipation, Ocean 44 opened its doors Dec. 4. The 12,000-square-foot ultra-grade seafood restaurant is owned by the lauded Mastro brand, and all items are sourced from sustainable fisheries when available.

Much of the menu is served a la carte, which is by design so guests can mix and match. To start, there is a raw bar menu as well as shellfish and appetizer menus. For main courses, there is an a la carte fresh fish menu and a lobster/crab menu. For meat lovers, there are also nearly a dozen steak options.
