The Museum of Northern Arizona unveiled an expanded and revitalized permanent exhibition on the “Native Peoples of the Colorado Plateau,” giving deeper insights into the 10 tribes that have called the region home. It is the first major renovation of the museum’s Native American exhibition in nearly 40 years.

In an approach that is being viewed as trailblazing, curators of the exhibition partnered with 42 members of the Colorado Plateau tribes to select the 342 items currently being displayed. The materials are from the Zuni, Acoma, Southern Ute, Southern Paiute, Hopi, Havasupai, Hualapai, Yavapai, Dilzhe’e Apache and Diné (Navajo) communities.

Visiting Flagstaff during summer months

There’s more to Flagstaff than NAU, and there’s no better time than now to visit. At least 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix or Tucson, June-September are some of the best months to visit Arizona’s “Mile High City.”

• Thanks to a recent renovation, Little America Hotel is the perfect home base while visiting.

• If you’re seeking great dining spots, try Root Public House, Coppa Café or Tinderbox Kitchen.

• Beer lovers won’t want to miss Mother Road Brewing, Lumberyard Brewing Co. or Historic Brewing.

• As for activities, seek out Flagstaff Extreme, Alpine Pedaler and the Snowbowl chairlift.
