Field to Feast

Ever wonder what’s growing in Yuma’s lush fields? Our Field to Feast tour gives you the answers – from the ground up. Get down – and a little dirty – with a hands-on farming lesson!

Led by a local grower, these half-day tours begin in a field planted just for us at the University of Arizona research farm. There, you’ll get a quick food safety lesson from Yuma food safety experts, along with hairnets, rubber gloves, lettuce knives and a “recipe” card telling you what’s called for in the kitchen. Once you’ve filled the chefs’ “order,” you can pick some fresh Yuma produce to take home. Don’t know kale from collards? Experts are on hand to assist and answer your questions.

Be sure to wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes, as this is a real working field.

When the harvesting is done, it’s back onto your motorcoach for a look at agriculture in action – the exact itinerary depends on your guide and what’s up in the fields.

As you look and learn, culinary students from Arizona Western College are preparing a delicious lunch from the fresh harvest. By the time you sit down for your “feast,” you’ll be stuffed with knowledge about how healthy Yuma produce gets from farm to fork.

Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. All tours depart promptly from the Visitor Information Center at 8 a.m. and return to the same location at approximately 1:30 p.m. You will receive a confirmation email with these details.
