I was a teenager, working in a very hot hay field with my buddy Chuck. We stood up to towel off and saw a four-door Buick driving down the highway.
“Look at that,” Chuck says. “An air-conditioned car. You know because the windows are up.”
The guy pulls up and asked us directions. He was wearing a crisp, starched white shirt. He was an insurance salesman. Ten years later, I saw an ad for an insurance sales job. Remembering that guy, I applied and immediately went to the top of the sales leaderboard. It’s what I was supposed to do.
