Known as “The Heart of Route 66,” Kingman was first established as a U.S. railroad town and quickly became a mining and ranching center, some 25 years after Lt. Edward Fitzgerald Beale began surveying the area for a wagon road. Beale’s Wagon Road would become a part of Route 66 and Interstate Highway 40.
With the advantage of being on Route 66 and the introduction of the Boulder Dam (now the Hoover Dam), Kingman continued to grow and become known as the “Gateway to the Boulder Dam.”
Today, visitors come to Kingman to visit and camp at Hualapai Mountain Park.
