Is the necktie a thing of the past?

The ripple effect of the pandemic on our workforce and work habits is under full review. Companies are reassessing the work from home model versus a traditional fully staffed office balance.

With offices all across the country largely closed during the past months, there was a marked difference in attire. Without the necessity for people to be dressed up for in-person meetings, the necktie has all but disappeared.

Between relaxed standards and WFH programs, there’s been a 42 percent drop in necktie sales nationwide, from sales of $3.7 billion nationally in 2018. Analysts are mixed on the possibility that it recovers.
