How do we arrest control of our media again?

I’ve been in media since I was editor of my high school newspaper. My parents subscribed to three newspapers and watched three network news programs.

I believed balanced media would continue enlightening our citizenry as my career progressed. Control of levers of power changed in the 1990s when media began regressing to its 300-year-old roots, serving up content that promoted political parties. Social media, news apps and the ability to instantly assess whether a story is going viral shifted focus of media owners.

When media serves up stories they know to be untrue, it’s time the public take back control.
